| Name | Valentin Kapitany |
| Label | Researcher, Computer Vision |
| Summary | I am a postdoc at the University of Glasgow, working at the intersection of machine learning, optics and computer vision. My work focuses on low-level image enhancements in smart biomedical microscopy (including image denoising, registration and super-resolution), and on AI explainability in smart 3D imaging and object detection (e.g. tracking information flow, identifying and removing data leakage). |

AI-enabled imaging and detection
- Created a data-driven algorithm that improves image resolution by up to 98%, per the LPIPS metric, using noise reduction, image registration and deep-learning based super-resolution in Python.
- Improved concealed weapon detection error rate by 400% using 1300 times less memory, by optimising an AI-enabled edge-device consisting of 3D cameras (LiDAR) and radars powered by a Raspberry Pi, running TensorFlow Lite in C.

Deep-learning for radar-imaging
- Achieved world-first AI-based 3D imaging with the low-power 'SOLI' radar, through developing radar readout, optimising data storage and processing, and training then testing 3D scene estimation.
